The Boroline House on Thursday (April 23, 2015) hosted a special Initiative 'Suthol Pathikrit Samman 2015' in Kolkata. The initiative was dedicated to the leaders who have worked for a better society. The Suthol Pathikrit awardees were celebrated danseuse Alokananda Roy, veteran Homoeopath Dr. Prasanta Banerji and well known child specialist Dr. Apurba Ghosh. Amid incidents of violence and allegations of coercion, firing and booth capturing, Kolkata witnessed daylong balloting to elect a new KMC (Kolkata Municipal Corporation) on Saturday (April 18, 2015). Polling was held in 144 wards The Opposition alleged rampant violence in the polls against the ruling TMC which rubbished the charges. The Election Commission admitted they received several complaints. A sub-inspector of police also sustained bullet injury even as the Opposition alleged inaction by the police forces. Ninety other municipalities in West Bengal will go to polls next week. The civic polls are seen as a semifinal before the assembly polls in the state next year. Images by IBNS
