26 years later, he returns to a changed world: Srijit Mukherji’s Winkle Twinkle trailer sparks political intrigue
Kolkata/IBNS: Director Srijit Mukherji on Thursday launched the trailer and music of his latest movie Winkle Twinkle at the Jadavpur University Open Air Theatre here.
The event was attended by lead cast Ritwick Chakraborty, Angana Roy, Anashua Majumdar apart from the members of the music team.
Based on Bratya Basu's stage play, Winkle Twinkle's plot follows a man, Sabyasachi Sen, played by Ritwick, a revolutionary activist of 1976, who suddenly disappears from the face of the earth.
Coming back in 2002, he sees his own son supporting ideologies his own father fought again.
The film explores themes of generational dynamics, political upheaval and ideological differences.

Speaking to IBNS, Ritwick Chakraborty said, “It’s a very famous drama written by Bratya Basu in 2002. It focuses on the conflict of two political ideologies, atmospherically placed within the family dynamic of a father and son. A man whom I am playing, Sabyasachi Sen, comes back suddenly after being missing for 26 years.
“He believes he has slept for all these years, and he seems not to have aged a day. And now he has to accept the change in the political and social environment that surrounds him.”
“This movie depicts a political environment; we need young audiences who are politically aware of what’s going on in their nation and educated, and that is where Jadavpur University shines,” he added.
Speaking on the choice of venue for the trailer launch, Srijit said, “My earliest cinematic memory from Jadavpur University’s Open Air Theatre was me assisting Anjan Dutt in Madly Bangalee, whose climax concert was shot right here.
“The long-standing thing in Jadavpur has been an awareness of political conditions and to resist any unjust situation. Even though I am a student of Presidency University, it had to be Jadavpur University for the trailer launch without a doubt.”

Angana Roy, who plays Indrani, said, "I was very happy to work with Srijit Mukherji finally. It was a big deal for me to be in a film like Winkle Twinkle."
The film will be released in theatres on September 4.
