Bollywood singer Akriti Kakar pays tribute to Kolkata in album
Well known personalities like Tanmoy Bose (percussionist), Raghab Chatterjee (singer), Lopamudra Mitra (singer), Sidhu (singer) and music director Samidh were present at the event as the CD was unveiled.
“Although I hail from Punjab, the love and warmth that I got from Kolkata is incomparable. Through Kolkata Diaries I have paid my tribute to Kolkata. I hope the audience will like it and love me more. I have tried to connect my soul with the City of Joy through this single,” said Akriti.
The song has been written by Manoj Yadav, popular for his songs in Coke Studio and many recently popular movies like Akshay Kumar’s Boss. The video is directed by award winning director Chirag Arora.
The music is released by Zee Music Company. The song pledges to cast Akriti in a new light to strike a chord specially with the Bengalis and all her listeners across the globe. The hook of the song is derived from a popular Bengali folk song ‘Tomay Hridmajhare Rakhibo, Chere Debo Na (I will keep you in my heart, never let you go).'
When asked about the experience of composing the single for Akriti, Joy Sarkar said, “Akriti is a fabulous singer and I am happy that she has come forward to connect to the roots of the rich music culture of Kolkata. It was great working with her, I believe the singles are future platform of music.”
Akriti has made a place in Bengali hearts through ‘Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Lil’ Champs’ where she appeared as a Judge. Being a Punjabi at heart Akriti has earlier sung popular numbers composed by Jeet Ganguly and recently she has added feathers to her hat with two recent blockbuster tracks like ‘Iski Uski’ from Bollywood film 2 States and ‘Saturday Saturday” from Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhaniya.
“Music transcends borders, no matter whether you are a Punjabi or Gujarati. I am happy that Akriti has come back to to the roots of music," said percussionist Tanmay Bose.
The video of the single shows Akriti in her journey through Kolkata and her tale of collecting aspirations and love from the city and then culminating it into a song in studio with Joy Sarkar and ultimately ending it in a huge live performance.
The single would be launched by Zee Music on 31st July with an exclusive launch on radio stations along side Sa Re Ga Ma Pa on Zee Bangla.
"It is not just an album or single, it is the journey but it is the product of musical guidance with Joy da,” said Akriti.
