BREAKING: Wajid Khan of music director duo Sajid-Wajid dies in Mumbai hospital

Mumbai: Music composer Wajid Khan of the Sajid-Wajid duo died in a Mumbai hospital on Monday, media reports and social media posts by Bollywood celebrities late in the night confirmed.He was 42.

"My Brother Wajid left us," posted singer Sonu Nigam on Facebook while actress Priyanka Chopra tweeted: "Terrible news. The one thing I will always remember is Wajid bhai's laugh. Always smiling. Gone too soon."

"My condolences to his family and everyone grieving. Rest in peace my friend. You are in my thoughts and prayers," she wrote.

Wajid died due to complications arising from a kidney infection. He was also infected with Covid-19.

He was admitted in hospital  in a serious condition and was on ventilator support, earlier report said.

Wajid Khan (his brother is Sajid Khan of the musical duo) was the son of Ustad Sharafat Ali Khan, a tabla player

Sajid–Wajid scored music for several Salman Khan movies beginning with Pyar Kiya To Darna Kya in 1998. In 1999, they scored music for Sonu Nigam's album Deewaana and in the same year, they scored for the film Hello Brother and wrote the songs "Hata Saawan Ki Ghata", "Chupke Se Koi Aayega" and "Hello Brother".

They composed music for several films such as Kya Yehi Pyaar Hai (2002), Gunaah (2002),Chori Chori (2003), The Killer (2006), Shaadi Karke Phas Gaya Yaar (2006), Jaane Hoga Kya (2006) among others. 

They had also composed music for several films starring Salman Khan, which include Tumko Na Bhool Paayenge (2002), Tere Naam (2003), Garv (2004), Mujhse Shaadi Karogi (2004), Partner (2007), Hello (2008), God Tussi Great Ho (2008), Wanted (2009), Main Aur Mrs Khanna, (2009), Veer (2010), Dabangg (2010), No Problem (2010) and Ek Tha Tiger (2012; "Mashallah" only).

Music director Salim Merchant tweeted, “Devastated with the news of the passing away of my brother Wajid of Sajid -Wajid fame. May Allah give strength to the family. Safe travels bro @wajidkhan7 you’ve gone too soon. It’s a huge loss to our fraternity. I’m shocked & broken. Inna Lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un”
