Feminism f**ked up our society, says Nora Fatehi; internet divided

Mumbai/IBNS: The social media is abuzz with the debate of feminism after Bollywood actress Nora Fatehi slammed the idea of feminism and advocated women should "be independent but to an extent".

Speaking at the The Ranveer Show, Nora called men a "provider" and a "breadwinner" and women a "nurturer", triggering a massive debate on feminism on social media.

Nora said, "This idea of I don't need anybody and feminism. I don't believe in this s**t, at all. In fact, I think feminism f**ked up our society completely.  The idea of being inherently completely independent and not having to get married and have kids and not having the male and female dynamics at home where the man is the provider, a breadwinner and the woman is the nurturer.

"I don’t believe in people who think that’s not true. I think women are nurturers, yes, they should go to work and have their own life and be independent but to a certain extent."

The actress, a Canadian by birth, continued to say that she advocates women's rights but not radical feminism.

She said, "They should also be ready to take on the role of being a mother, a wife and a nurturer. Just like a man should be ready to take the role of being a provider, a breadwinner and a father and a husband. We call it an old-school, traditional way of thinking. I call it the normal way of thinking. It’s just that feminism fucked it up a little bit.

"We are all equal in more sentimental things but in societal things, we are not equal. Feminism inherently, on the base level, is great. I also advocate for women’s rights, I also want girls to go to school. However, when feminism becomes radical, it becomes dangerous for the society."

Nora, who is popularly known for her dancing skills, left the internet divided with her opinion.

One user wrote, "nora fatehi’s understanding of feminism is just about as relevant as any of her songs are to the plot of the movie."

One user shared a clipping of Priyanka Chopra's take on feminism as a response.

Supporting Nora, Amit Lakhani says, "Nora Fatehi certainly show some guts here. Says it point blank "Feminism Fu***d up the society "

Barkha Trehan, an activist, says, "NORA FATEHI ON FEMINISM!! Now people are slowly starting to understand that Radical FEMINISTS are huge threat to the society."
