Jat body seeks ban on Panipat, several theaters in Jaipur stop screening

Jaipur/IBNS: Amid criticisms by the Jat community over the film's portrayal of Bharatpur's Maharaja Surajmal, several movie theaters in Jaipur have stopped showing Friday released movie Panipat.

Directed by Ashutosh Gowariker, the movie is considered as one of the major releases of the year and features Arjun Kapoor and Sanjay Dutt in the lead roles.

Shows were cancelled at Raj Mandir, Cinepolis and Inox theatres.

"All shows of the film have been cancelled till further orders. The 12 noon show had to be cancelled  due to a protest. No untoward incident was reported due to police presence," Raj Mandir manager  Ashok Tanwar told Manorama Online.

Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot asked the Censor Board to intervene into the matter.

State Rajasthan Minister Vishvendra Singh, a descendant of Surajmal,  demanded an immediate ban on the periodic movie.

Singh tweeted: "I am once again requesting PM @narendramodi Ji and CM @ashokgehlot51 Ji to ban the film all over India."

The movie is based on the events that happened during the Third Battle of Panipat.
