KIFF: Amitabh Bachchan comments on 'intolerance' in the country
Speaking on the growing intolerance in the country, Amitabh Bachchan said, "Now, more than ever, we need to talk to each other when cultures are being questioned and prejudices against communities are dividing the world."
"The Indian cinema from its beginning has taught us the lessons of finding love, justice and social unity. Even today films remain the most persuasive form of entertainment. We need to learn form them," the actor said.
In the star-studded inaugural ceremony, West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee and other actors like Jaya Bachchan, Sharmila Tagore, Vidya Balan and Moushumi Chatterjee were present.
The 21st edition of KIFF will screen 149 films by 137 directors from 61 countries at 12 places across the city. The 7-day-long festival will conclude on Nov 21.
