Rishab Shetty's mythological action drama Kantara Chapter 1 has roared in the box office on the opening day with its meaty collection worldwide.

Released on October 2 on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, Kantara Chapter 1 is so far the second biggest opener among Kannada films after Yash's KGF: Chapter 2 that earned Rs. 134.50 crore in domestic circuit in 2022.

Shetty's latest installment, a prequel to previous Kantara released in 2022, earned approximately Rs. 75 crore in the box office across languages emerging as a true pan-Indian film, Sacnilk reported.

The film has earned Rs. 60 crore only in India, a report by The Indian Express says.

It has surpassed the opening collections of several 2025 releases like Chhava, Sikandar, Saiyaara

The themes of Kantara: Chapter 1 build on the spirit of the original Kantara but go deeper into mythology, ancestry, and the clash between human greed and divine/natural order.

Shetty's 2022 Kantara, which became popular with positive word of mouth, had opened to Rs. 2 crore on the first day.
