Veteran Kannada actor Dwarakish passes away at 81, condolences pour in

Bengaluru/IBNS: Veteran Kannada actor-producer Bungle Shama Rao Dwarakanath, popularly known as Dwarakish, passed away at the age of 81 on Tuesday.

He passed away in Bengaluru.

Born in Mysuru, Dwarakish started his acting journey by doing small roles. He played a prince in his first film 'Veera Sankalpa'.

In 1966, Dwarakish co-produced 'Mamatheya Bandhana'.

In 1969, he independently produced 'Mayor Muthanna' starring Dr. Rajkumar and Bharathi in the lead. The film went on to achieve box office success.

Post 'mayor Muthanna', Dwarakish went on to deliver several successful films as a producer.

From 1985, he started directing films. Some of his works include 'Dance Raja Dance', 'Nee Bareda Kadambari', Shruthi' et al.

Dwarkish was the first Kannada producer to bring music legend Kishor Kumar to the film industry. Kishor Kumar's 'Aadu Aata Aadu' turned out to be popular.

Condolences

Rajinikanth posted on X, "The demise of my long time dear friend Dwarakesh is very painful to me..starting his career as a comedian, he raised himself up to being a big producer and director.. fond memories come to my mind..my heartfelt condolences to his family and dear ones.."

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on X, "Dwarakish Ji’s contributions to the film industry are immense, spanning decades of unforgettable performances and groundbreaking films.

"His ability to captivate audiences and support young talent gave a glimpse of his multifaceted role in shaping Kannada cinema. Saddened by his passing away. We will always remember his extraordinary journey. Condolences to his family and admirers. Om Shanti."

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah posted on X, "Saddened to hear the news of the death of 'Prachanda Kulla' Dwarkeesh, who served the Kannada film industry for a long time as an actor, director and producer.

"Dr. Rajkumar and Dr. Despite sharing the screen with great actors like Vishnuvardhan, he made his own mark in the minds of the audience through his humorous acting. His death created a vacuum in the Kannada cinema. May his soul rest in peace, family and fans find strength to bear the pain."
