Bangladesh beat SA , win ODI series 2-1

Chittagong, July 15 (IBNS) The Bangladesh Cricket Team tamed Hashim Amla and his South African brigade by defeating them in the rain truncated third ODI by nine wickets and claiming the series 2-1 here on Wednesday.

Having restricted the Proteas to a mere 168 for the loss of 9 wickets in the revised 40 overs, Tamim Iqbal and Soumya Sarkar played effortless cricket to add 154 runs for the opening stand and thawing any imposed threat to see their team home.

The Bangladeshi batters scored their runs quickly and won the game with 83 balls to spare.

After winning the toss and deciding to bat first, South Africa lost their openers early. Amla (15) and Rilee Rossouw (17) threw away their starts while Quinton de Kock (7) and their T20I captain Faf du Plessis (6) failed to score anything significant. Apart from a 63 runs 5th wicket partnership by David Miller (44) and Jean Paul Duminy (51) there was nothing special from the visitors as they kept on losing wickets at regular intervals.

The Bangladeshi bowlers bowled with a lot of intent and discipline, allowing very little access for their opponents to score freely. Shakib Al Hasan took 3 wickets apart from bowling an economical spell. Young sensation Mustafizur Rahman and pacer Rubel Hossain picked up 2 wickets each.

The South African bowlers much like their batsmen failed to do any good. They were expensive and apart from a solitary wicket by leggie Imran Tahir there was hardly anything from them.

Soumya Sarkar who picked up both the Man of the Match for this match and the Man of the series for amassing 205 runs missed out on a century as he fell short by 10 runs having departed for a quick fire 90 off 75 balls. Tamim Iqbal (61) too hit a half century and saw his team through.

Bangladesh once again proved their critics wrong by winning yet another home series; their fourth consecutive ODI series win at home soil. This was also the first time that a Bangladeshi side won a bilateral ODI series against the Proteas.

Bangladesh will nest play South Africa in a 2 Test Match series.
