Captain had reservations with my style and about my continuing as the head coach: Anil Kumble

London, June 20 (IBNS): Speaking for the first time after resigning, former Indian coach said he learnt from BCCI that skipper Virat Kohli had reservations with his 'style' and about his continuing as the head coach.

Issuing a statement on Twitter, Kumble said: "I was informed for the first time yesterday by the BCCI that the Captain had reservations with my 'style' and about my continuing as the Head Coach."

Kumble has submitted his resignation to BCCI last evening, despite the Cricket Advisory Committee's extension of his tenure as a coach.

His initial term as the coach had expired in the Champions Trophy.

The former Indian coach even said he was surprised to hear from BCCI about Kohli's 'reservations', since he believes that he always maintained "respected role boundaries between Captain and Coach".

Kumble was appointed as the head coach of the national side by the CAC which comprises of former cricketers Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman, last year. His performance was outstanding as a coach with no series defeat in the entire last season of test cricket.

The former Indian spinner, who also led the Indian team for sometime, admitted that BCCI tried to resolve issues between him and Kohli but he certainly felt the "partnership was untenable", so he decided to "move on".

Rumours were going on for last few months about the possible rift between Indian captain Virat Kohli and coach Anil Kumble, though the news was not confirmed any way.

Kohli, in a press conference during Champions Trophy this month, said these were made up stories by the media. It was nothing but the minor disagreement between them, he said.

Prior to the end of Champions Trophy, BCCI has also put up a notice for the selection of a new coach. While Virender Sehwag applied for the job, Kumble was given a free entry to the process.

Amitabh Choudhary, Acting Secretary of the BCCI, said: “We wish to place on record our sincere appreciation for the immense contribution by Anil Kumble to the team which enabled India to attain the No.1 Test position. Indian cricket needs his continued contribution in various capacities and wishes him all the best in his future endeavour.”

The BCCI is now seeking the assistance of the Cricket Advisory Committee in its search for a new head coach for the Senior India Men's Cricket Team.

In the interim, the BCCI has deputed MV Sridhar, GM - Cricket Operations to supervise the Team Management for the West Indies tour,  which will commence from June 23.
