CLT20: Mumbai beat Southern Express

Raipur, Sept 14 (IBNS): Keeping their hopes alive, Mumbai Indians defeated Southern Express by nine wickets in a Champions League T20 qualifying match here on Sunday.

Chasing 162 for victory, Mumbai reached 165 runs by losing a wicket with 22 balls to spare.

The match was snatched away from opponents hands by Mumbai openers

Lendl Simmons (76*) and Mike Hussey (60).

Both added 139 runs in the first wicket partnership before Hussey departed in the 15th over of the match.

Sachith Pathirana picked up his wicket.

Skipper Kieron Pollard (20*) and Simmons ensured the side reach the target safely without any further damage.

Earlier, Southern Express scored 161 for the loss of six wickets in 20 overs.

Smashing three boundaries and two sixes,Farveez Maharoof remained the top scorer for the side with his unbeaten 41.

Jasprit Bumrah, Lasith Malinga,  Pollard, Jalaj Saxena and Pragyan Ojha picked up a wicket each for Mumbai.

In the other match of the day, Northern Districts defeated Lahore Lions by 72 runs.

After positng 170 for six, Northern's bowlers bowled out  Lahore side for 98.
