Extraordinary last wicket stand give s India control over England
Shami also give England a strong reply with his ball as he dismissed skipper Alastair Cook (5) in the fourth over of the home side's innings as England ended the day's play at 43 for one.
Sam Robson (20*) and Gary Ballance (15*) will resume the proceedings for the hosts on Friday which will be a crucial day of the Test match as the home side trail by 414 runs.
Resuming from 259 for four, MS Dhoni and Murali Vijay continued building the innings steadily.
As the pair added 45 more runs on the second day, India were looking to post a huge run on the scorecard.
Vijay was dismissed by Anderson at his personal score of 146 runs, four shot of reaching 150, as India received the first blow of the day. He hammered 25 boundaries and a six in his knock.
Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja added 40 runs, while Ben Stokes dismissed the Saurashtra lad to give the side another blow.
India were 344 for six at that point.
India lost quick wickets of Dhoni (82), Stuart Binny (1) and Ishant Sharma (1) as the visitors were reduced to 246 for nine at quick time. Dhoni was denied scoring his first century outside Asia.
As it seemed that India have completely lost the advantage they have gained with Vijay and Dhoni's partnership, the last wicket partnership between Kumar (58) and Shami (51*) played memorable knocks to help India post 457 on the scorecard.
The English bowlers were frustrated as they found no clue to dismiss the last wicket stand.
Both Shami and Kumar played some good shots and added 111 runs in the last wicket partnership.
Kumar and Shami's partnership became the highest for India outside the sub-continent.
Both scored their maiden half-centuries and turned things completely at a time when the hosts were slowly gaining control over the match.
James Anderson picked up three wickets for England.
