Former Australian cricketer Dean Jones dies of heart attack

Mumbai/IBNS: Former Australian cricketer and commentator Dean Jones died of a massive heart attack here on Thursday.

He was 59.

Jones was in the commentary team of Star Sports network and was in a biosecure bubble at a Mumbai hotel.

The former Australian cricketer, who was best known for his batting in One Day International (ODI) format, scored over 6,000 runs in 164 matches. 

In 52 Tests, he scored over 3,600 runs at an average of 46.55. 

Jones was inducted into the Australian Cricket Hall of Fame in 2019. 

Mourning his death, India's head coach Ravi Shastri tweeted, "Really shocking to lose a colleague and a dear friend - Dean Jones. Gone so young. Condolences to the family and may his soul rest in peace."

Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli tweeted, "Shocked to hear about the tragic loss of Dean Jones. Praying for strength and courage to his family and friends. Folded hands."

Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag said, "Saddened to hear the news of Dean Jones passing away. Still cannot believe it. Was one of my favourite commentators, he was on air in many of my landmarks. Had really fond memories with him. Will miss him."
