ICC Test rankings: India retain top spot, skipper Virat Kohli remains on No 2
Dubai/UNI: India on Tuesday maintained their number one position and captain Virat Kohli managed to retain his 2nd spot in the ICC rankings despite the horror run with the bat in the recently-concluded Test series against New Zealand.
India have 116 rating points, six more than New Zealand with third-placed Australia having 108 points, in the latest ICC Test Rankings updated on Tuesday.
Steve Smith is sitting pretty on the top of the Test Batting Rankings with 911 points. Kohli has dropped 20 points from 906 after a forgettable Test series in which he made 38 runs in four innings.
However, he is comfortably holding the No 2 spot. Virat has a 59-point lead over No 3-ranked Australia batsman Manus Labuschagne.
Meanwhile, vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane has dropped a spot to 9th after he scored just 91 runs in 4 innings against Kiwis.
On the other hand, Cheteshwar Pujara rose 2 spots to 7th. He was among the only 2 Indian batsmen to have scored more than 100 runs in the 2-Test series in New Zealand.
Opener Mayank Agarwal though dropped outside top 10 and slipped to the 11th spot despite being India's top-scorer with 102 runs in New Zealand.
In the Test Bowling Rankings, India's pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah climbed 4 spots to 7th after finishing the series with 6 wickets.
The Test Bowling Rankings is being led by Australia's Pat Cummins followed by New Zealand's Neil Wagner. Fast bowler Tim Southee climbed 2 spots into the top 5 after emerging the highest wicket-taker (14) in the 2-Test series against India.
New Zealand opener Tom Blundell and his Indian counterpart Prithvi Shaw and debutant paceman Kyle Jamieson were among the biggest movers in the rankings.
Blundell had a successful series against India, scoring 117 runs in four innings, which help him jump 27 places to No 46.
Shaw, who played a knock of 54 runs in the first innings of the Christchurch Test, rose 17 places to No 76. But, the biggest gainer was Jamieson, who rose from No 80 to 43.
There was only one change in the top ten among all-rounders, with Southee dropping a spot to No 10 and team-mate Neil Wagner falling out of the top 10 with a drop of four spots.
As with the bowling rankings, Jamieson, who frustrated India with handy lower order runs, gained big on the all-rounders' table, rising 26 places to No 22.
