ICC Women T20 WC: India beat Australia by 17 runs, Poonam Yadav shines

Sydney/UNI: Poonam Yadav's brilliant leg-spin bowling helped India stun defending champions Australia by 17 runs in a low-scoring opening match of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup at the Showground Stadium, here on Friday.

Chasing a below-par total of 133 runs, Australia were bowled out for 115 in 19.5 overs.

Poonam Yadav was the most successful bowler with 4/19, while Shikha Pandey 3/14 , Rajeshwari Gayakwad 1/31 were the other wicket takers for India.

Alyssa Healy 51 off 35, Ashleigh Gardner 34 off 36 were the top scores for Australia.
