Jammu and Kashmir: Interzonal district-level athletic competition begins in Kishtwar

Srinagar: Additional District Development Commissioner, Mohammad Hanief Malik Tuesday inaugurated the inter-zonal district level athletics meet for under 14, under 17 and under 19 categories of boys and girls, at historic Chowgan Ground Kishtwar here.

The competition is being organised by District Youth Services and Sports Department Kishtwar and will be played in two phases.

District Youth Services and Sports officer, Kharati Lal Sharma in his welcome address informed that age-wise competitions in the race, High Jump, Long Jump and Shot put will be held in which boys and girls athletes from 05 zones - Kishtwar, Drabshalla, Inderwal, Nagseni and Padder of District Kishtwar is participating.

He further briefed that on an inaugural day only girl athletes will take part and tomorrow boys of all age group will participate in the event by following all SOPs of COVID-19 and due observance of the precautionary measures.

He also announced that all students will be provided refreshments and transport charges on the spot as per norms.

He also informed about the previous events organized by the department like inter-zonal & inter-school Tournaments, Rakhi making, Trekking, Yoga day celebration, Swatch Bharat Abhiyan, B2V3, My Town My Pride, Run for unity and others.

He said these events witnessed the participation of 8000 students from across the district.

The chief guest appreciated DYSSO Kishtwar and all sports employees for their efforts towards the promotion of sports among the students.

A pledge for upholding the sportsman spirit was also taken by the participants on the occasion and the event were declared open.
