Mitchell McClenaghan released from New Zealand Cricket central contract
"The 31-year-old left-armer this week submitted a request for his contract to be terminated so he could be considered for the new Global T20 competition in South Africa and this summer’s Big Bash League in Australia," New Zealand Cricket website said in a statement.
Following discussions with McClenaghan, Auckland Cricket, and the New Zealand Players Association, NZC has granted his request, the website further said.
The cricketer said he is harbouring ambition of playing cricket for New Zealand in future.
"I’ve worked closely with NZC throughout the process, while also making it clear I still harbour ambitions of playing for New Zealand in the future," he was quoted as saying by the cricket board's website.
McClenaghan has played 28 T20s and 48 One Day Internationals for New Zealand.
He had made his debut for the national side in 2012.
