Norway-England FIFA WC clash: Haaland left furious after Sorloth ignores him in costly World Cup moment

The FIFA World Cup witnessed a potentially decisive moment when Alexander Sorloth opted not to pass to teammate Erling Haaland during Norway's high-octane quarter-final clash against England on Saturday.

The missed opportunity may have proved costly as Norway eventually bowed out of the tournament following a 2-1 defeat after extra time.

On the cusp of half-time, Norway found themselves in a strong position to launch a counter-attack against the 1966 champions.

Leading 1-0, Norway had a golden opportunity to double their advantage, with John Stones the only England defender initially standing between the Norwegian attackers and goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.

With Haaland well positioned to make a run towards goal, Sorloth opted to go for glory himself instead of playing in his teammate.

As England players recovered to close him down, Sorloth attempted to dribble through the defence before producing a weak effort that failed to trouble the opposition.

A video of the incident has since gone viral on social media, with Haaland seen visibly disappointed after his teammate failed to pass the ball.

Meanwhile, Jude Bellingham produced a match-winning performance, scoring twice as England came from behind to beat Norway 2-1 after extra time and secure a place in the FIFA World Cup 2026 semi-finals.

England will now face defending champions Argentina in the semi-finals.
