Tokyo/IBNS: Two athletes have tested positive for Coronavirus in the Tokyo Olympic Village after a team colleague was also infected, media reports said.

This comes just days before the opening ceremony of the highly anticipated sporting event.

On Saturday, the first case of COVID-19 was known to be detected in the Olympic village in Tokyo.

The infected person is a member of one of the foreign delegations.

The three cases were detected as competitors are arriving at the Tokyo Village from around the world.

The Summer Olympics in Tokyo, originally scheduled to take place in 2020, were postponed for a year due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The event, which is set to begin on Jul 23, will be held without spectators due to the remaining risks of the virus.
