Sydney, Jan 12 (IBNS): Hitting his 22nd ODI century, Indian opener Rohit Sharma shattered a record that was once set by former West Indies icon Viv Richards.

With four centuries now scored in Australia, Sharma has touched the highest figure to achieve as per slamming a hundred on the Australian soil by any batsmen in the world is concerned.

Viv had earlier set the record with three centuries in his belt.

Sharma scored 133 runs in the first ODI match against Australia.

However, the century was left useless for the national side as Australia beat India by 34 runs.

MS Dhoni added 51 runs with his willow and also completed 10,000 runs in ODIs.

Australia took 1-0 lead in the series with the win.
