Sourav Ganguly appreciates Carlos Brathwaite for his heroic knock against New Zealand
London, June 23 (IBNS): Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly, under whose leadership India had played the World Cup final in 2003, on Sunday congratulated West Indies batsman Carlos Brathwaite for his fighting 101 runs knock that gifted fans a memorable match against New Zealand on Saturday.
After New Zealand posted 291 for the loss of eight wickets, West Indies tried hard but fell short of the target by five runs.
West Indies were bowled out for 286 runs. Carlos hammered five sixes and fought nearly alone after West Indies were reduced to 7-164 at one point in the game.
Carlos tried out smack one outside the park in the last over but was caught as West Indies hope of registering their second win in the tournament was dashed by a patient New Zealand side.
Sourav appreciated the West Indies batsman and said innings like the one he played will keep the World Cup alive.
"Carlos braithwate.. every World Cup needs u to keep the tournament alive .. what an innings .. well done newzealand @windiescricket," Sourav tweeted.
