Castries, Apr 7 (IBNS) Darren Sammy, the West Indies T20I captain, who became the only skipper to lift two ICC World T20 trophies, was honoured in his hometown as the St Lucian government renamed their national cricket stadium after him, according to reports.

The Beausejour Cricket Ground will henceforth be known as the Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium, with one of its stand named after fellow compatriot Johnson Charles, who braved early storm against India in the semifinal of the tournament to help his team reach a stable position and win the match.

The two time champion skipper joined the likes of Sir Clive Lloyd, who led the Caribbean nation to two World Cup victories in 1975 and 1979.

Happy with the recognition, Sammy said it is quite an humbling experience.

He was quoted in the media as saying, "I am truly honoured, I am humbled and blessed."

Thanking his fellow countrymen, the big-hitting St Lucian said, "Thank you, we always know St. Lucians love their own and the love and respect and admiration I have just received at the airport, oh my God, thank you very much."
