Tokyo Olympics: Great Britain beat India 4-3 to clinch bronze medal
Tokyo: Indian women's hockey team went down fighting against Great Britain in the crucial bronze medal match of the Tokyo Games 2020 here on Thursday.
The eves finished fourth in the major sports event.
This is India's best-ever finish in the grand event.
Britain defeated India 4-3 in the clash.
After receiving two goals, India fought back in the second quarter of the contest.
Gurjit Kaur had drawn level.
Vandana Katariya had provided India the lead before half-time.
For Great Britain, the goals were scored by Elena Rayer, Sarah Robertson and Hollie.
India PM Narendra Modi appreciated the squad and said the performance displayed by the women showed the spirit of New India.
"We narrowly missed a medal in Women’s Hockey but this team reflects the spirit of New India- where we give our best and scale new frontiers. More importantly, their success at #Tokyo2020 will motivate young daughters of India to take up Hockey and excel in it. Proud of this team," Modi said.
