Perth, Dec 15 (IBNS): Virat Kohli played another heroic knock under pressure and Ajinkya Rahane gave him a strong company as India finished the second day's play at 172 runs for the loss of three wickets against Australia in the ongoing second Test match of the series here on Friday.

After initially losing two quick wickets-K Rahul (2) and Murali Vijay (0), Kohli and Chetaswar Pujara (24) added some runs to bring India back to the match.

After Pujara departed, the Indian skipper kept playing some good cricket shots to finish the proceedings of the day at unbeaten 82 runs.

Rahane contributed 51 runs and remained not out.

Starc picked up two wickets for Australia.

Earlier, Australian first innings ended at 326 runs.

India are still behind Australia's first innings total by 154 runs.
