Wellington, Feb 20 (IBNS) New Zealand continued their strong performance in the World Cup as skipper Brendon McCullum smashed a 25-ball 77 to help his side beat England in Pool A match here on Friday.

Bowling out England for 123 runs, New Zealand batsmen reached the target of 125 runs by losing only two wickets.

In his sensational knock, the skipper hit eight boundaries and seven sixes which made the match completely one-sided.

New Zealand had defeated Sri Lanka in the first match of the tournament  last Saturday.

Along with Martin Guptill (22), McCullum added 105 runs in the first wicket partnership and give no chance to the opponents to bounce back.

Chris Woakes dismissed both the openers at the end but it was too late for England to recover in the clash.

Kane Williamson (9) and Ross Taylor (5) cruised the homeside to victory.

Earlier, England were bowled out for 123 runs in 33.2 overs.

Joe Root contributed 46 runs with his willow while the remaining batsmen collapsed as Tim Southee took seven wickets by giving away only 33 runs.

Southee completely destroyed the opponents with his memorable performance.

England 123 all out in 33.2 overs (J Root 46; T Southee 7-33)

NZ 125 for two 12.2 overs (B McCullum 77; C Wokes 2-8)
