New York Police Department said the attacker was wearing an improvised low-tech explosive device attached to his body.

NYPD Commissioner James O'Neill was quoted as saying by WABC channel: "Preliminary investigation at the scene indicates that this male was wearing an improvised low-tech explosive device attached to his body. He intentionally detonated that device."

As per WABC report, the suspect has been identified as 27-year-old Akayed Ullah, who is from Bangladesh and has been in the country for seven years.
