Afghan people want to see end of diplomatic ties with Pakistan

The protestors demanded expel of the Pakistan ambassador and the closure of the embassy.

“The Afghan people are ready to establish an Israeli embassy in Afghanistan, but Pakistan's embassy in Kabul should be closed as soon as possible,” Zalmai Afghaniar Popal, deputy head of the ancient Herat Social and Cultural Council in Kabul, was quoted as saying by media group Pasbanan.

Silsila Alikhil (26), daughter of Afghanistan's ambassador to Pakistan, was briefly kidnapped by unknown assailants on Friday who left her with injuries and rope marks, as per the officials and doctors.

The incident led to severe outrage, forcing the Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan to take the matter as top priority and order nabbing of the accused within 48 hours.

The protestors claimed that the kidnappers have warned the Afghan Ambassador with dire consequences if the protests against Pakistan in Afghanistan are not muted.

“We call on the Afghan security and defense forces to monitor the activities of all Pakistani political representations. The Afghan embassy is not safe. The ambassador’s family should be summoned from Pakistan, and the gates of the Pakistani embassy in Kabul, should be closed,” Mahmoud Marhoun, who organised the protest, told mediapersons.

The protestors asked the countries in the region, especially India and Turkey, to stand with Afghanistan in this hour of crisis and form a united front against Pakistan.

They also asked the people to boycott goods from Pakistan and alleged that the money earned from the export of goods was being used by Pakistan to purchase weapon and support militia.

The situation in war-torn Afghanistan has worsened after the United States announced the complete withdrawal of American troops by September 11, almost 20 years after it attacked the country to capture Al-Qaeda head Osama Bil Laden, dismantle Taliban rule and establish a democratic government.

With the date of withdrawal of troops nearing, the Taliban has regained its control and claims to have captured more than 80 per cent of the country's districts by defeating Afghan forces.

The US has failed to break a deal between the Afghan government and the Taliban to establish peace.

The Afghanistan holds Pakistan responsible for the surge in the Taliban activities and accuses it of providing safe havens and support to Taliban militia.

On the other hand, Islamabad accuses Kabul militants to use their territory to carry out attacks in Pakistan.

Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani recently told Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan that at least 10,000 Pakistani fighters were fighting alongside the Taliban in Afghanistan and that Pakistan should stop doing so.
