Afghan releases more than 100 Taliban prisoners

Kabul/UNI:The Afghan government has released 102 more members of the Taliban as per the agreement between the Islamist group and the US announced National Security Council Spokesman Javid Faisal on Tuesday.

Sputnik quoted Faisal saying that with the release of this latest batch of Taliban inmates the Afghan government has till now released a total of 850 Taliban prisoners and said that more prisoners could be released once talks start between the Afghan government and the Taliban. The spokesperson also urged the Taliban to continue releasing Afghan military personnel as per the agreement.

The prisoner exchange is being done as per the agreement between the Taliban and the United States under which the Afghan government would release a total of 1500 Taliban members in several batches.

The Taliban for their part have released 112 members of the Afghan armed forces so far.
