At least two people were injured in a shooting incident in the Australian city of Sydney on Friday, media reports.

Police are now hunting a getaway car used by the attackers.

Emergency services were called to the salon on Marrickville Road in Marrickville just before 2pm on Friday, reports Nine News.

Officers from Inner West Police Area Command arrived a short time later, locating two men suffering gunshot wounds, police said in a statement.

Both men were treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics, before being taken to hospital for treatment.

One man is believed to be in a critical condition, while the other is believed to be in a stable condition.

A crime scene has been established, which will be examined by specialist forensic officers.

Local detectives have commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting and will be assisted by specialist detectives as required.

Their inquiries will include whether two vehicle fires at Marrickville and Dulwich Hill are linked to the shooting.

More information will be provided when it comes to hand.
