Avignon: Shooting outside mosque leaves eight injured

| | Jul 03, 2017, at 04:10 pm
Avignon, Jul 3 (IBNS): At least eight people were injured after two gunmen opened fired outside a mosque in Avignon, France, reports said.

The incident took place outside Arrahma mosque on Sunday night at around 10:30 pm.

According to la Provence newspaper, the gunmen were carrying a handgun and a shotgun.

Among the eight, four people sustained injuries outside the mosque, while four others, including a seven-year-old girl, suffered shrapnel injuries inside their apartment, the daily reported.

The police however said that they are not treating this as a terrorist attack.

The prosecutor's office said that even though the incident took place outside a religious establishment, it had no connection with it and took place as a result of a fallout between two groups.

Last week, at least one person was arrested by police for trying to plough his car through pedestrian outside a mosque in Creteil, a suburb in Paris.

France has witnessed growing attacks on its citizens in the last two years.

A number of incident has rocked the nation, most of which has been shouldered by the IS, who in a letter to French civilians, threatned to carry out more attacks in the future if the country does not drop its anti terror campaign.
