Dhaka: Bangladesh government imposed strict 'lockdown' in the country from Friday after ending their nine-day break for Eid-ul-Azha celebration.

Bangladesh has witnessed a surge in COVID-19 cases in recent weeks, increasing the death toll due to the deadly disease in the South Asian nation.

It will start at 8 am today and will continue till 12 midnight on August 5.

State Minister for Public Administration Farhad Hossain told the media on Thursday that the lockdown would not be relaxed.

Police, BGB and army will be on the ground to ensure the ban.

Offices-courts, garments-factories and export-oriented everything will be closed.

Earlier, on July 13, the Cabinet Division issued a circular relaxing all restrictions imposed from midnight on July 14 to 8 am on July 23 in the interest of conducting business before Eid and keeping the country's socio-economic condition and economic activities normal.

The notification also imposed new restrictions from 8 am on July 23 to 12 noon on August 5.
