Bangladesh's popular Youtuber Hero Alam will be fighting the upcoming Dhaka-17 by-polls and he has been allocated the ektara symbol (one-string, a musical instrument).

Hero Alam's real name is Ashraful Hossen Alom.

The symbol was allocated by Returning Officer Md Munir Hossain at Dhaka's Electoral Training Institute (ETI) building on Monday, reports Dhaka Tribune.

Hero Alom told the newspaper: "I asked for the ektara symbol, and they allocated that to me. I have no further complaints.”

He said he wants to see fair elections to be held in the city.

The Dhaka-17 constituency fell vacant after the death of actor  Akbar Hossain Pathan.
