Brazilian woman dies in bungee jump horror after staff 'forgot' to attach safety rope

The excitement of bungee jumping turned into a horrifying tragedy for a 21-year-old Brazilian woman after she plunged more than 130 feet to her death when staff allegedly pushed her off a bridge without attaching the safety rope.

According to media reports, the victim was identified as Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas.

The incident occurred on Saturday morning at a popular adventure tourism site in Limeira, Sao Paulo. Reports said Maria was prepared for the jump and then pushed off the bridge by staff members before the safety rope had been secured.

Video footage of the incident reportedly captured onlookers screaming, "The rope, people, the rope!" moments after she was released into the air, according to The Sun.

By then, it was too late. Maria fell more than 131 feet to the ground as stunned staff members watched the tragedy unfold.

Hours before the fatal jump, Maria had shared her excitement on social media. She had also taken selfies with company representatives involved in the activity.

The staff seen in photographs and videos appeared to be wearing T-shirts bearing the logos of companies Entre Cordas and Ih Voei, The Sun reported.

Emergency responders rushed to the scene, but Maria was pronounced dead.

In a chilling detail highlighted by the British newspaper, Maria had posted a photograph alongside a banner of "Entre Cordas" with the caption: "Who was the crazy person who let me jump off a bridge?"

Following the incident, six people were reportedly arrested at the Ponte do Esqueleto trail as authorities launched an investigation into the fatal accident.

According to The Sun, the company charged £26.50 (R$180) per jump and had advertised five additional jumping dates in the coming months.
