British PM Theresa May to seek snap election for June 8
She said the nation needed stability and strong leadership after the EU referendum.
May was quoted as saying by BBC: "I have concluded the only way to guarantee certainty and security for years ahead is to hold this election."
The PM will need the backing of the Parliament to hold a vote before the next scheduled date of 2020.
In a historic day of geo-political bloodbath, Britain last year chose to leave the European Union after a majority of 52 percent voted in its favour in a referendum, severing a tie since 1973, thus forcing former Prime Minister David Cameron who had put his neck on the line by an aggressive pro-EU campaign, to resign.
