Ottawa, Jun 21 (IBNS): Canada's Liberal MP Karina Gould has received applauds for breastfeeding her son in the House of Commons, media reports said.

During the question-answer period in the House on Tuesday, Gould was seen feeding her three-month old son Oliver.

Canadian Health Minister Ginette Petitpas Taylor was speaking about marijuana legalisation when Gould fed her child.

As the news emerged, Gould tweeted to say, "No shame in breastfeeding! Baby's gotta eat & I had votes. Clearly still work to do... Glad @HoCSpeaker & parl colleagues supportive! :)"

Gould has herself said that she received support from her colleagues in the House.

Earlier, Gould created history by becoming the first Canadian minister to give birth to her child while in office.

She gave birth to Oliver in March and then took maternal leave.

Gould returned to work in May.
