Canadian teacher detained in China has been released: Reports

Toronto, Dec 29 (IBNS):  A Canadian citizen who was detained in China earlier this month has been released, media reports said.

The teacher has reportedly returned to Canada.

The citizen, Sarah McIver, was detained due to a work permit issue related to her teaching job, CNN affiliate CTV reported.

A Canadian citizen who was detained in China earlier this month has been released and is back in Canada according to Richard Walker, spokesman for Global Affairs Canada, reported CNN.

Days after Chinese telecom company Huawei's executive Meng Wanzhou was arrested in Canada, Michael Kovrig, a former diplomat to China, the teacher Sarah McIver and Michael Spavor, an entrepreneur, were detained on suspicion of posing threats to the security of China.
