Beijing, Oct 18 (IBNS): The political fest has begun in the Chinese capital, Beijing, on Wednesday morning.

The Communist Party Congress is a closed-door event where Chinese President Xi Jinping is addressing about 2000 delegates.

It takes place once every five years.

Xi, who became the President in 2012, is expected to retain his post.

Experts say that the present President is the strongest, in terms of power, the country has ever witnessed.

The congress is a week long event and decides the upcoming plans for the next term.

Following the conclusion of the congress, the Communist Party is expected to unveil the new members Politburo Standing Committee, China's top think tank and decision making body.

According to reports, Xi has vowed to eliminate any ill from the party.

Meanwhile, ahead of the party's meet, the entire capital city has been covered in Communist Party messages.

Security was also beefed up a month before the scheduled inauguration day.

In order to stop any untoward situation, the Communist Party, which is known for its zero tolerance nature towards criticism, also forced the closure of instant messaging app WhatsApp from the mainland.

On Sep 26, it was reported that Beijing had blocked instant messaging app WhatsApp in order to bolster online surveillance ahead of the upcoming Communist Party meeting.

The move came as a setback for Facebook owner Mark Zuckerberg, who was planning to re-enter the Chinese online market.
