Tel Aviv/IBNS: Chinese ambassador to Israel Du Wei was found dead in his Herzliya home in the northern part of the city on Sunday morning, said media reports.

A Jerusalem Post report said the death has been confirmed by a Foreign Affairs Ministry official and the police are in his home and investigating the case.

The 57-year-old envoy had been appointed the Chinese ambassador to Israel only in February and served as the envoy to Ukraine before the posting.

The Israeli newspaper said the Chinese embassy is yet to confirm the death.

The newspaper said Army Radio has reported that no signs of violence were found by the investigators, leading to the conclusion that he died from a heart attack.

A BBC report said Israel's Channel 12 TV has learned from unnamed medical sources that initial investigations show that Wei passed in his sleep of natural causes.

Wei's death comes a week after US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo visited Israel in an apparent attempt to limit Chinese investments in the country, said the Jerusalem Post report.
