Islamabad: At least 18 students of International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) were injured after a clash erupted between a group affiliated with Islami Jamiat-i-Talaba (IJT) and Pashtoon Council, according to media reports on Tuesday.

The two groups had staged separate protests at the university on Monday.

While the Pashtoon Council members alleged that students affiliated with Jamiat attacked their rally first, the latter has denied.

The IJT students claimed that those involved in the murder of one of their colleagues at the university two years ago were still roaming freely, Dawn reported.

Later, the university confirmed the "sad incident involving conflict between student organizations" and said the "higher administration condemns this incident and has taken strict notice of it, and will work with the district administration to take control of the situation," The Friday Times reported.

The university said a disciplinary committee will be formed to investigate the incident.
