"Hamas has fired more than 2160 rockets at Israel"

Jerusalem, July 23 (IBNS): Israel on Wednesday said Hamas has fired more than 2160 rockets at Israel since the start of Operation Protective Edge earlier this month, forcing some 6 million Israeli civilians to live under the threat of rocket attacks.

"As part of the operation, Israel forces uncovered over 30 Gaza tunnels intended for the launch of terror attack on Israel. These tunnels are repeatedly being used by Hamas terrorists to carry out attacks, murdering and kidnapping of Israeli citizens,"  Embassy of Israel in New Delhi said in a statement on Wednesday.

The EU has strongly condemned the indiscriminate firing of rockets into Israel by Hamas and have called on Hamas to immediately put an end to these acts and to renounce violence. Europe's Foreign Ministers classified Hamas' actions as criminal.

"Despite the constant rocket fire by Hamas, Israel continues to providing food and essential supplies for the residents of the Gaza Strip. Since the beginning of the operation, more than 778 trucks with food and medical supplies were transferred into Gaza. Israel continues to treat wounded Palestinians from the Gaza Strip," read the statement.

In the past 15 days, at least 649 Palestinians and 31 Israelis have been killed since the fighting started.
