Imran Khan calls Cabinet meeting as Pakistan's parliament debates on no-confidence vote

Islamabad: Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has called a meeting of his Cabinet at 8 pm even though he is expected to lose the no-confidence motion in the parliament which is likely to be conducted later in the evening, media reports said.

Local media reports said that the parliament is likely to debate over the issue till 12:30 am as the house was suspended amid ruckus by the opposition, adding that the voting to decide the Imran Khan-led Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government's fate can be completed by 12:00 am.

It is being said that Imran Khan can make a big announcement post the Cabinet meeting.

Earlier, Prime Minister Imran Khan's government on Saturday filed a review petition against the Supreme Court's decision to restore the National Assembly session.

Imran Khan faces the danger of going through a non-confidence motion after Pakistan's Supreme Court had said that the deputy speaker's decision to dissolve the national assembly was illegal as he violated the constitution by refusing to allow a no-confidence vote against Khan the last weekend.

The Tehreek-e-Insaf party (PTI) effectively lost its majority in the 342-member assembly after one of his allies said that it would vote against him in a no-confidence vote.

Meanwhile, Khan has claimed that he has credible information that his life is in danger but asserted that he is not afraid and would continue his fight for an independent and democratic Pakistan.

The no-confidence motion was submitted by the opposition parties on March 8.
