Invasion of our borders will come to a halt: Donald Trump promises crackdown on immigration ahead of inauguration

Washington D.C./IBNS: US president-elect Donald Trump has promised strict steps to curb immigration in the country on the eve of his inauguration in the White House, media reports said.

Trump will be sworn in as the 47th US president on Monday.

In his address to a massive gathering at the Capital One Arena, Trump reassured his supporters to take strict executive measures to curb immigration, one of the key promises he had made during the November 5 election campaign last year.

Trump said, "We have to set our country on the proper course. By the time the sun sets tomorrow evening, the invasion of our borders will come to a halt and all the illegal border trespasses will in some form or another be on their way back."

"We will quickly reestablish control of our sovereign territory and borders. We will expel every single illegal alien gang member and migrant criminal operating on American soil...," he added.

In the course of his address, Trump hailed the Israel-Hamas ceasefire which was achieved last week.

Trump even mocked Joe Biden, the outgoing US president, for taking credits for the ceasefire deal in the Middle East.

"Perhaps most beautiful of all this week we achieved an epic ceasefire agreement as a first step towards lasting peace in the Middle East and this agreement could only have happened as a result of our historic victory in November," Trump said.

"Our incoming administration has achieved all of this in the Middle East in less than three months without being president. We've achieved more without being president than they've achieved in four years with being president," he added.

As per a Reuters report, Trump is likely to sign more than 200 executive decisions on the first day of his second term.

He will be inaugurated at an indoor place due to extreme cold weather in Washington in a star-studded presence.

The inauguration will begin with a traditional service at Church followed by White House tea and swearing-in at the Capitol.
