Kandahar police, spy chiefs killed in Taliban attack

Kabul, Oct 19 (IBNS): A shooting incident inside the governor’s house in the Kandahar province of Afghanistan left police chief Gen. Abdul Raziq and the intelligence chief killed, media reports said on Friday.

The province governor Tooryalai Weesa was injured in the attack, reports said.

  The firing erupted during a high-level security meeting at the governor’s house, where NATOand US forces top commander in Afghanistan Gen. Scott Miller was also present but he escaped unhurt, reported Pajhwok Afghan News.

Deputy Kandahar governor for social affairs, Haji Agha Lali Dastagiri, told Pajhwok Afghan News that police chief Abdul Raziq and Kandahar National Directorate of Security chief Gen. Abdul Momin Hussainkhel had been killed and the governor, Weesa, was said to be wounded in the incident.

The Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Pakistan condemns attack:

Pakistan condemned the attack and its foreign ministry said in a statement: "Pakistan strongly condemns the terrorist attack reportedly resulting in the sad demise of senior Kandhar security officials and causing injuries to many others."
