Kabul/UNI: US Department of Defence revealed that a single suicide bomber had carried out the attack that took the lives of 170 Afghan people and 13 US marines during the evacuation from Kabul in August 2021, the media reported on Saturday.

According to the department, the attack was conducted by the bomber using 20 pounds of explosives packed in ball bearings.

Gen Frank McKenzie Head of the US Central Command said based on their tactical level investigation, the attack of August 26 was not preventable and they could not overcome it, the Khaama News Agency reported.

The bomber had crossed the Taliban and other security's checkpoints and reached to the checkpoints of the US service members where he detonated his explosives, according to the officials.

Islamic States-Khorasan branch took the responsibility for the attack.

Meanwhile, the officials said gunshots, after the blast, by US and British Forces were just for warning the people adding that no one got harmed by them.

The blast at Abbey Gate of Kabul International Airport was the most heinous attack that was followed by a drone attack by the US on a civilian house close to the airport that killed ten civilians including children three days after, according to the Khaama press.
