Vogue magazine announced that Nobel Prize-winning Pakistani education activist Malala Yousufzai will star on British Vogue's July 2021 cover. Malala can be seen in a dark red Stella McCartney dress in a photo of the cover shared by the magazine, with the words "The extraordinary life of Malala. Survivor, activist, legend" written at the bottom.

Nick Knight, a British fashion photographer, has photographed her for the magazine cover. The issue will feature an in-depth interview with Sirin Kale.

“When it comes to people I admire, Malala Yousafzai is right at the top,” Edward Enninful, the editor-in-chief of the magazine, was quoted as saying by The News.

“At 23, the world’s most famous university graduate has already lived so many lives. Activist, author, tireless campaigner for girls’ education, daughter, sister, student, and survivor,” he added.

Recalling the past decade, which brought with it much tumult for Malala, he said she was “a young teenager with a passion for learning”. He noted how she had always given a “voice to girls denied the right to learn”.

In October 2015, Malala was shot by militants belonging to the Tahreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), commonly known as Pakistan Taliban, for her campaign of girls education in Pakistan’s tribal region.

“A new side to Malala is revealed,” he said, inviting readers to read the interview in full. Later Malala shared the picture on her Instagram saying: “Thrilled and humbled to be on the cover of British Vogue! I know the power that a young girl carries in her heart when she has a vision and a mission – and I hope that every girl who sees this cover will know that she can change the world.”
