Ontario reports third record day in a row of 3,328 new COVID-19 cases, 56 new deaths

Ontario/IBNS: Canada's Ontario city reported for a third record day in a row 3,328 new COVID-19 infections and 56 deaths both well above the previous highs since infections began rising again in Sept, media reports said.

With its cumulative case of 182,159, Ontario's seven-day average has also reached a new record-high of 2,436. 

Thursday's figure marks the first time that more than 3,000 cases were reported by Ontario in a single day, and the third consecutive day, with the worst single-day death toll  in the second wave

Subsequently, there had been a considerable dip in the province's test positivity rate from Wednesday's 7.7 per cent to Thursday's 5.7 per cent.

A record number of 1,235 patients were also hospitalized on Thursday, of those 337 in intensive care units.

Of the newly confirmed infections, there were 998 in Toronto, 431 in Peel Region, 418 in York Region, 257 in Windsor-Essex, and 194 in Ottawa.
