Pakistan: Baloch group holds candlelight vigil in memory of Zeeshan Zaheer who was 'extrajudicially killed'

Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC), a prominent Baloch-based human rights group, held a candlelight vigil recently in memory of Zeeshan Zaheer, who was 'extrajudicially killed'.

The group said he was a zonal member of the Baloch Yakjehti Committee.

BYC claimed Zeeshan’s father has been a victim of enforced disappearance since 2015.

Sharing some images of the candlelight vigil, BYC wrote on X: "Today, the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) – Shaal Zone held a remembrance candlelight vigil in memory of Zeeshan Zaheer, a dedicated BYC zonal member. Zeeshan’s father has been a victim of enforced disappearance since 2015. Instead of ensuring his father’s safe return, the state returned Zeeshan’s own body — extrajudicially killed."

The images shared by the group showed people from different age groups participating in the march.

Balochistan has been in focus for years now over human rights concerns for decades.

Balochistan has been witnessing a spike in violence, involving separatist movements, heavy military presence, enforced disappearances, and economic marginalisation.

The condition of Balochistan has drawn attention from various human rights organisations, journalists, and international observers.
