Pakistan: Karachi building collapse leaves 14 dead

Karachi/IBNS: A five-storey residential building collapsed in Pakistan's Karachi city which left at least 14 people dead, media reports said on Friday.

The mishap reportedly left 17 people hurt.

The incident occurred in the city's Gulbahar area.

According to Police Surgeon Dr Qarar Abbasi, the bodies of 14 victims have been brought to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, while at least 17 injured have been brought to the same facility, reported Dawn News.

Rescue workers rushed to the spot to remove those trapped under debris.

Karachi Mayor Wasim Akhtar reached the spot of the mishap.

"Mayor Karachi straight from the Airport, reached at the spot of Nazimabad, Golimar Building Collapse incident as he just arrived from Islamabad, Directed KMC’s Team of USAR & Fire Brigade to remain at the incident site unless Search & Rescue operation completed," the official Twitter page of the Mayor said.
