Islamabad: A man has been held by police officials as he attempted to attack Pakistan's French embassy, media reports said.

The suspect snatched a weapon from the police but was detained by Pakistani security forces, reports WION.

He was quoted as saying by WION that he was "seeking revenge for blasphemy by France''.

Pakistani journalist Omar R Quraishi tweeted: "Police in Pakistan handcuff a man after he was stopped from going towards the French Embassy. Police say he had a semi automatic rifle with him which had been snatched from a cop in another city - was trying to reach the Embassy to take revenge on the blasphemous cartoons issue."
